Foreword by Natalie North, UKYP Yorkshire and Humberside Rep
"Summer 2008 saw the UK Youth Parliament’s Annual Sitting at the University of Exeter. The Sitting saw the diverse Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) come together to plan the UK Youth Parliament’s work over the coming year, and revisit and revise the manifesto.
The manifesto plays a vital part in the work of the UK Youth Parliament; it gives the public andthose influential adults thevoices of young people and their opinions on pressing issues. It raises awareness and gives our stance on things. Obviously it is therefore essential this document stays updated and current.
At the Sitting, additions were made to the manifesto and things were taken out. MYPs then voted on all the additions to the manifestoto ensure it reflected theview of the young people in the United Kingdom.
The past few years have seen dramatic changes within policy due to work of the UK Youth Parliament. Most recently our campaign on improving Sex and Relationships Education has resulted in Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) becoming a statutory part of the curriculum.
The success of this campaign highlights the importance of this document in bringing about change within society, and ensuring young people have their voice heard and acted upon, as they are the next generation!"
